Shaw farm’s 100th
celebration
a huge success!!
If
you missed it, you missed a lot of fun.
The great 100th
birthday party for Shaw Farm the weekend of 6/28
was, in the words of 86 year old Winthrop Shaw,
who traveled 3000 miles to attend, “the best
event he ever attended”.
Family, friends,
customers, and folks that just wanted to help
celebrate this historic event, devoured hundreds
of pounds of ice cream, had their face painted,
milked a cow or checked out our entire herd of
cows on their way to take a hay ride.
The kids just had
a blast in our scavenger hunt in a hay pile
game.
Saturday began
with a live radio hosted by Warren Shaw, current
farm owner and 980wcap talk host and 8 am
featured a “thanks to you” breakfast served free
to Shaw Farm customers loyal for over 50 years.
Congressman Niki
Tsongas presented a proclamation from the United
States Congress and was followed by Senators Sue
Tucker, Steve Panageotakis, Representative
Colleen Garry, Lowell Mayor Bud Caulfield along
with Dracut Town Manager Dennis Piendak and
Selectmen Bob Cox and John Zimini.
Representatives
from the new England Green Pastures were also on
hand to present the Massachusetts Dairy farm of
the year award to the farm. Assistant
Commissioner Scott Soares brought with him the
support of the Massachusetts Department of
Agriculture.
Following the
radio broadcast, the fun activities began and
the crowds followed.
When the
celebration finally wound down at 4pm on Sunday,
we still had folks standing in line for our make
you own ice cream sundaes.
Many estimated
the weekend crowd to be as high as 10 thousand.
Thanks to
everyone that stopped by to congratulate the
family and to the many friends and family
members who worked so hard to make the event
such a stunning success.
A special thanks
to our friends at 980wcap for a great on the
farm radio broadcast and to The Lowell Sun for a
fabulous insert flier done on our history.
Now that our big
celebration is over its back to farm work for
the rest of the summer.
In future
newsletters I will let you know whats happenimg
on the farm and an update on the progress of our
new bottling facility coming up later this year.
