Our history
dates back to the early 1900's when many similar dairy farms existed in
Dracut, throughout the Merrimack River Valley and in all of New England.
The farm was founded in 1908 by M.L. Shaw at a
time when dairy farmers did all the work without the aid of power driven
equipment. Our fields were cleared and plowed with a team of horses. Hay
was cut with a hand scythe. Milking was done twice a day, by hand. Water
was heated in a wood fired kettle. All of our dairy products were delivered
door to door throughout the Greater Lowell area with a horse drawn wagon.

Now...
Shaw Farm is the last operating dairy farm in
the Greater Lowell area.
The farm is still owned and operated by the Shaw
Family. Shaw Farm is the only place in the Greater Lowell area, and one
of the few in all of New England, where you can purchase fresh milk in
glass bottles, and at the same time treat your family to the experience
of a real working dairy farm. We still milk cows twice a day.
Freshness is what we sell. And, in some cases
the milk you purchase in the afternoon might have come from the cows that
very morning. Shaw Farm also still Pasteurizes it's milk the old fashioned
way, in vats. This helps protect the milks natural sweetness. We produce
whole (cream rising to the top) milk, low fat milk, and flavored milks
(including chocolate, strawberry, and coffee.) All are available in old
fashioned one quart glass returnable bottles as well as 16 oz plastic containers.
Shaw Farm also offers our own Ice Cream made fresh
from milk and cream from our farm. Three small batch freezers allow us
to offer over 50 flavors of hard gourmet quality
ice cream, along with sherbets, low fat frozen yogurt, and "no sugar added"
ice cream.
In early 1999, we will be opening our seasonal
Ice Cream Stand. This will provide our high quality gourmet style hand
packed ice cream in an"on the farm" setting for your family.
